The horses head is a snow pattern that accumulates snow all winter long and in the spring you can see the head of a horse. As the weather warms the snow begins to melt and the first snow to melt is the snow in the horses neck area. As the snow melts high water is prevalent in the creeks below. The old timers say that when the reins break then high water is over and it is safe to cross the creeks.
